Types of marketing tactics

As a large, or small, business you’re typically focused on generating the next lead, which often requires marketing assistance. Some marketing tactics yield maximum results with minimal cost, and vice versa. The question is how do you choose a marketing tactic? Our answer: this will vary based on target audience, budget and many other considerations.

We have put together a few common marketing techniques to provide a small picture of what marketing tactics are out there and how to use them.

1. Social Media

Often a cost effective option, social media, when used correctly, can go a long way to get your business into the conversation and drive traffic back to your site. Share quality content with your followers — information they would like to read and share. Social media is all about appealing to your audience.

2. Promotional
That water bottle on your desk, or paperweight, most likely came from a sales rep. It was free and you kept it. That’s promotional marketing. If you are interested in keeping top of mind or want to make your presence known at a tradeshow, promo items are a great option. If the item is something useful or unique, most likely people will hold onto it, and in turn your logo or company name stays visible.

3. Incentive-based
Incentive marketing means that your company offers a benefit in return for an action. For example, you may offer a free coffee to customers or clients that contact you to learn more or register for an event. Offering a discounted price or bundled services can also be considered incentive marketing. This type of marketing often works well for consumer-facing businesses.

4. Cause-based
Over the holiday season we (Mopdog) rallied our followers to submit holiday recipes, and with each submission we donated money to MUST Ministries. This is an example of cause marketing. Often times, this tactic works well to generate leads and create new connections.

The above examples are only a sampling of marketing techniques your company can use to increase visibility. To fully succeed in any marketing campaign, it’s imperative to create a targeted strategy and map out key benchmarks. Need a little help? Just contact us!
