How important is your URL?
Imagine for a moment that you’re in the final stages of developing a website. It looks fantastic. The links work, the page is easy to navigate and each tab is filled with amazing content. All there’s left to do is launch … or is there something else? Did you check your URLs? You should! Do you know that their names and keywords make a difference?
As far as showing up in search engines, your URL, or uniform resource locator, is one of the important factors. When people search for keywords, the search engine will look for them in URLs, titles and content, but it’s important to note that keywords in URLs hold more weight.
Think of it this way:
You logon to a video streaming service in search of a good action flick. From the homepage, you can see lists of genres, including a whole row of action movies to choose from. Would you be able to find those movies if the service didn’t categorize their selections and instead listed only the titles? No, probably not, well not as easily at least. The same idea goes for search engines and URLs. Search engines categorize the keywords and present them in a search just as video streaming services present movies in different genres.
URLs act as keywords in search engines and therefore are crucial for establishing a solid website.
