From everyone here at Mopdog, Happy Memorial Day! We hope you all enjoy your day off. Our office is closed on Monday, so if you call and we don’t answer, it’s because our office is emptier than your bottle of sunscreen.

That being said, it’s important to remember that Memorial Day is primarily about remembrance and thankfulness. We urge you to take a moment of silence on Monday to honor all of those who have served our country and may no longer be with us.

To keep the Memorial Day celebrations going, we wanted to play a little game of “did you know.” So, did you know …

• Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day. This title comes from the original purpose of the day, which was to place flowers on the graves of fallen soldiers.
• This holiday was first proposed by General John Logan, commander of the Grand Army of the Republic in 1868.
• To many people, Memorial Day marks the start of the summer. This year, summer actually starts on June 21.
