The best Super Bowl XLVIII commercials
Another year down – another year of the good, bad and somewhat embarrassing Super Bowl commercials. Whether you were one of the 100 million who tuned in last night for the game, the half-time show or kept the TV on mute until the commercials, you’re sure to have an opinion on your favorite ad. Listed below are some of the pack’s favorites.
Adam – Honda: ‘#hugfest’ – So, Bruce Willis made my friend run around and hug everyone, and then tried to sell him another Honda. The hugs were cool, but I couldn’t help but feel that my friend was exploited by Honda and Bruce.
Chris S. – Chrysler: ‘America’s Import’ – The Bob Dylan commercial was my favorite … because it was so awful.
Byron – T-Mobile: ‘We Killed the Long-Term Contract’ – My favorite was the “We Killed The Long-Term Contract” T-mobile commercial that featured text on a pink background with the song “Whistle Stops” from Disney’s Robin Hood playing in the background. It was refreshing to see a simple concept among a plethora of horribly over produced commercials, which in turn made it stand out among the rest. I also think T-Mobile’s contact buyouts were the most enticing consumer promotion among all products that were advertised…and on second thought; maybe this was T-Mobile’s way to save their money for all of those contracts they’ll be paying for in 2014.
Katelyn – Wonderful Pistachios: ‘Part 1’ and ‘Part 2’ – I liked the wonderful pistachio one, it was clever to do it in two commercial slots!
Fiona – General Mills Cheerios: ‘Gracie’ – I thought this commercial was very cute! The little girl was adorable and she was able to use it to her advantage and negotiate a puppy! I wish it had been that easy when I was younger.
Chris V. – 24: ‘Live Another Day’ – My favorite commercials were the promos for the new season of 24. Fox set up the promos in a really clever way so that at different points in the commercial breaks, you’d see a random shot of London in distress and you’d hear the signature “24 clock” in the background. If you knew about 24, then you recognized the clock tick and you thought to yourself “can it be?” And then finally, at the end of the game, Fox played the full trailer for the new season and it was fantastic.
Brooke Mc. – Budweiser: ‘Puppy Love’ – I had heard that this commercial was going to be good in the days leading up to the Super Bowl, and it definitely delivered. It was so cute.
Cheryl – Maserati: ‘Strike’ – Mine … the Maserati Ghibli … maybe because the actor was adorable … or maybe because I REALLY want one! And now we strike …
Bill – Doritos: ‘Time Machine’ – I loved the Doritos Time Machine. It was simple, funny and had great product awareness. Some commercials were so creative that I think they forgot what the product was.
