SEO Case Study: Jack McGovern Coats Disease Foundation

Search Engine Optimization, and Search Engine Marketing, is top of mind for a lot of companies out there. We are in a generation that operates under the “just Google it” mentality, so bettering search engine visibility has become increasingly important for companies that want to be seen.

The Mopdog pack recently went to work with the Jack McGovern Coats Disease Foundation (JMCDF), a foundation that funds research to find a cure for Coats disease and pediatric retinal disease, to recreate their website and update its content in an effort to increase search engine visibility. Upon redesigning, researching keywords and reworking content, Mopdog was able to assist JMCDF in bettering their SEO in multiple areas. With the new site launch, measurable results have been seen over the last 30 days which include increased keyword impressions and views, and higher Google rankings.

Significant increase in keyword searches and impressions
The act of typing a word into Google and seeing that word appear under a link, and then clicking that link, is called a “click.” Since the new site has launched, we have seen click increases that range from 67 percent to 300 percent. Words and phrases incorporated into the copy, like what is coats disease, coats disease specialist, blindness facts and coats syndrome, have allowed the search engine (particularly Google) to return JMCDF and people have begun to click.

Increase in page view and Google-driven website traffic
Once the site went live we were able to see a consistent, and steadily growing, increase in website traffic to the site. Of the visitors to the site, 62 percent of visitors came through Google as compared to the 19 percent that typed www.coatsdiseasefoundation.org into their browser. These numbers show that search engine results are driving people to the JMCDF site.

Higher position on Google pages (in search returns)
Out of a sampling of 35 keywords, as related to Coats Disease, 74 percent of these words now show JMCDF on the first page of the Google search. Four of these keywords return in the top three links on the first page.
