Cobb Community Chat

Cobb Alcohol Taskforce held a live Cobb Community Chat last Thursday, April 26 to discuss successes in changing adult behaviors and social norms as the community moves from awareness to action in preventing underage and youth binge drinking. To be able to reach a broad audience, the Chat was hosted live as well as streamed live online.

Cheryl and Lauren from the Mopdog team had the pleasure of supporting the Taskforce at the live Chat! Here are a few thoughts they took away:

Expertise Panel:

Overall, the panel was diverse and knowledgeable with a lot of great information to share. The Panel introduced themselves with a little background on what they do and how underage and binge drinking affects them. The Chat was then turned to an open forum where the audience was able to ask the panel questions. This was a great mix of individuals with a lot of great information to share including: advice for parents, stats, tole models, mentors, myths, getting your child involved in school, getting sports teams involved, holding children and parents responsible, etc.

Featured panelists included:

  • Government, Helen Goreham, Cobb County Commissioner
  • Healthcare, John D. Kennedy, MD, Cobb Douglas Public Health Director
  • Law enforcement, Lynda Coker, Cobb County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy
  • Court, Greg Poole, Cobb County Juvenile Court Judge
  • Education, Jeff Inman, Cobb County Schools Prevention Intervention Center Coordinator
  • Family, Donna Kosicki, Georgia PTA President

Youth Council:

The Youth Council gave great social media outreach statistics. For example, “Today I shared that alcohol contributes to the 3 leading causes of teen death (accidents, suicides and homicides) to 500+ of my Facebook friends!” They also presented awards to the Youth Video Contest winners and showed the winning video live. Great job students!

Cobb Alcohol Taskforce is our newest client and we are very excited to begin working with this great organization and important cause!
