Showcasing the Value of Science at Ford Elementary
You cannot teach a man anything; you can only help him discover it in himself. – Galileo
And that’s just what the STEM program at Ford Elementary School in Cobb County aims to do with its learning gardens, science lab and more. The school supports children discovering education for themselves when they participate in hands-on experiments, projects and lessons that will stick with them throughout their lives.
For the past seven years, each Ford Elementary teachers (K-5) selects one student in their class who has excelled in science throughout the year. All of the selected students and their families are invited to attend the annual Cheryl Musial Science Awards to be recognized.
Almost a decade ago, Cheryl, and a team of community leaders, helped build the Ford Elementary School Foundation. Through generous support of Ford Elementary families, they were able to fund the Science/STEM Lab. In 2015, Ford Elementary leadership took the program to the next level as one of the first elementary schools in Cobb County to become a GaDOE STEM Certified School and AdvancED STEM Certified School.
Since its inception, over 2,000 students have experienced the Science Lab/STEM program at Ford Elementary, and the fifth graders who first experienced the Science Lab have finished their first year of college!
Mopdog, Raising Help and Good Dog are also proud to support the Ford Elementary School Foundation, Science Lab/STEM program and the awards ceremony by sponsoring events and fundraisers, volunteering at STEM night events and providing strategic, creative and website support.
